The HRD is an internationally acclaimed organization that acts as an
official representative of the diamond sector. The organizational acronym HRD
expands to Hoge Raad Voor Diamant or the Diamond High council.
About HRD Diamond Lab
Based in Belgium,
this organization operates by forming official liaisons with the government and
acting as an official intermediary for the various members of the Belgian
diamond community. The Antwerp world diamond
council operates through its diamond office which acts as a custom center for
all diamonds passing through Belgium.
Thus all diamonds that are imported to or exported from Belgium, invariably pass through
the HRD diamond office.
The organization regularly gives awards to people who
excel in the diamond industry. Regular trade fares at national and
international levels are a highlight of HRD too. HRD places emphasis on
marketing programs that promote and build the image of Antwerp as a renowned center for diamonds
Loose Diamond Certification of HRD
HRD provides HRD Certificates for various diamonds, which act as
authentication on the 4Cs of the diamond. The HRD Certificates department is
accredited officially for quality examination as per the ISO 17025 standards.
Three kinds of certificates are issued by the department. These include the HRD
diamond certificate , the HRD diamond identification report and the HRD diamond
color certificate. The HRD diamond certificate provides information on
authenticity of the diamond while the identification report is provided for
diamonds under one carat weight. The HRD diamond color certificate on the other
hand, pays special emphasis on the value attributed to color diamonds.
HRD equipments, research and education in gems
The organization also lays special emphasis on equipment. The HRD
Equipment division actively participates in marketing machines, tools and other
instruments that are used by jewelers and other members of the diamond
industry. Besides its above areas, HRD is highly active in the areas of
research and education. Thus HRD manages the HRD research wing which
looks into fundamental and applied research concerning all aspects of the
diamond industry. While fundamental research supports customer confidence,
applied research aims to support the Belgian industry. This encompasses
research on improving the manufacturing process to increasing the efficiency of
diamond trade.
Two groups of scientists and engineers from the WTOCD and the
GDI (Gem defence initiative) together form the research department of HRD. On
the education front, HRD also operates the HRD Institute of Gemology, which
organizes workshops for identification, analysis and grading of diamonds, both
in the home country and abroad. Diploma courses on HRD certified diamond
grader, HRD gemologist and HRD graduate gemologist. The alumni of the
organization get together as the HRD Graduates club that forms a forum for
exchanging ideas and information.
